“Stick Nodes” – Update #3


More updates!

Among other miscellaneous things, this past week or two I’ve been primarily focused on getting the “create new stickfigure” screen up and running.  Check out the video below for a quick peak at what it looks like right now.

Keep in mind that I’m still smoothing out the rough edges.  For example, while working on the stickfigure in the video, I noted the necessity of a “duplicate segment” button as well as the need for better draw-order control (some visual indicator as to the depth of each node would probably help).

Next up is some minor tweaking and bug fixes I have noted down, then I want to actually get some frames created and showing up at the top of the app (maybe no actual “animation” just yet, but we’re getting there).

Oh, and yeah, the name is Stick Nodes.  Catchy, right?

    Really loving the triangle segments, that add’s so much potential to stick figure design now!

    Not sure about the name.. I mean it’s cool, but I feel like this app needs a name that’s EPIC! IDK though

      Yeah, I know. To be perfectly honest, I wanted something with “stickfigure” in the title to help visibility on app stores, but I eventually settled with “stick.”

      Pivot, Stykz, etc – they are better names since they’re unique.

      I still might change it if I think of something really good.

      And yeah, triangles. Lot’s of pointy objects now.

        Well that, but also triangles have the potential to make any shape in the universe if they’re small enough.

        Are you planning to make segments that attach to larger segments but don’t have pivot points so they’re purely for detail? If so, triangles would make that even better

          Yeah, I didn’t make a point of showing it in the video, but there’s a checkbox for setting a segment to static (non-moveable) or not.

          Only potential issue I saw was that since a node is declared static, the node itself won’t appear when you’re animating (so you can’t select/move the node, this is normal).

          However, since you can’t select the node, you also can’t change it’s color/size on the fly, either. Could be a potential nuisance but I think it will just have to be.

          Well would it be possible to have a stick figure edit window? Or better yet to press and hold the stickfigure and have everything else fade out and allow the user to see and edit every node, static or not?
